Big Sale at the Art Department

The Art Department is on sale again, offering all of their downloads for $6.99.  This is a great deal, especially considering some download originally cost $60.  I haven't been very diligent with reviewing the tutorials, but here's a list of the tutorials I've done quick reviews on:

I highly encourage you to give these videos a shot.  While there's a lot of free stuff out there on the internet, these are some finely made videos that really helped me along with my artwork.

  1. Thanks, mabibili ko na yung Brad Rigney and Greg Manchess! Seriously they just stick the price to 6.99 for most of them. People are just gonna wait for the sale anyway :)

  2. Hope it's not too late, but I wasn't very impressed with the Brad Rigney video. I would go for Donato Giancola instead, even if he doesn't use Photoshop.

  3. Hard to say din pag sa tutorials. Its a personal preference if you see/hear stuff that will help you improve you work. Rigney's style is far from mine but looks more difficult than most. yeah, a bit nuts on my part since I aim for what I think is the hardest techniques. How many of their videos have you got btw?

I wish Gnomon offered discounts too.

  4. I've got quite a few, maybe 20 or more?

The reason I didn't like Rigney's video is that his style is really tedious. And I didn't like how almost every 5 minutes he would say that it's just hard and it takes a long time to do. I mean yeah, I get it already.

It's not that there isn't useful stuff to pick up, it's just that maybe half his video is him fiddling with areas of the painting in his style. It could have been edited down by a lot without sacrificing the content. That's just me though.

  5. yeah, he's not the most professional lecturer in there. most uncharismatic and Unprepared is my impression. yeah the smudging technique is like a no-no for learning how to paint digitally to some but I'm amazed its the technique he uses. But yeah, his style is not deadline/production friendly when I think the same results can be achieved faster.

Might try the Jason Manley one next :)
